On the night of Thursday 1st October the Tin Drum St James’s Street hosted a fantastic fundraiser for the Brighton and Hove Aids Memorial Statue, raising just under £500 for the charity! The night started with hilarious cabaret from the cast of the Alternative Brighton Pantomime with the Tin Drum providing excellent food and fantastic cocktails for those in attendance. The night was held as a last minute fundraiser to help raise cash for the Brighton and Hove Aids Memorial Statue which is due to be unveiled just up the road from the Tin Drum at the New Steine on the 9th October by Elton John’s partner David Furnish.
The auction started around 9pm with brilliant prizes donated from BohoGreen, the Funky Fish Night Club, The Wellington Pub, signed Harry Potter DVD case curtsey of Mark Williams (aka Arthur Weasley) and one of statue designer Romany Mark Bruce’s Prints – which turned out to be the star prize of the night! Jim Beam had also donated a very special prize to the auction; three bottles three bottles of the famous bourbon; with one signed by the current Head Distiller Fred Noe.
The cast of the Alternative Brighton Pantomime were certainly drawing attention to the event with cars stopping in the street to see what all fuss was about!
The sculptor of the Aids Memorial Statue, Romany Mark Bruce was thrilled with how the night went; “I was pleased to be able to attend such an enthusiastic fundraising event. Again it has been shown that there is great support within our community for the Aids Memorial Statue."

Heather Mills joins Market Kitchen to talk about her new vegan Cafe (VBites in Hove, East Sussex) as it receives positive reviews from some hard to please carnivore journalists.
Heather talks frankly about how, after losing her leg in an accident in 1993, she re-evaluated her diet and decided to become vegan.
Heather will be bringing her vegan meat alternatives (salami, chicken and chorizo) which she’s devised to test out on meat loving presenter Matt Tebbutt.
And she'll be showcasing her skills in the kitchen by cooking her and her daughter’s much loved ‘Soya Chicken styled Indian Nut Korma’.
Heather says "I thoroughly enjoyed filming with the Market Kitchen team - the relaxed atmosphere and friendly banter between the show's presenters is what makes the programme so watchable. It was a real pleasure to be able to cook live in the studio. Then seeing the audience and presenters tucking into my meat-free version of a chicken Korma was the icing on the (vegan) cake".
Catch Heather on Market Kitchen on Tuesday 22nd September at 7pm.

This week the Mayor of Brighton and Hove City Council, Gerry Peltzer Dunn paid a visit to an exciting community art project on St James Street in Kempt Town called ‘The Care Wall’. The project has come to life through a partnership between local sustainable development consultancy BohoGreen, Dorset Gardens Methodist Church in Kept Town and Brighton and Hove City Council. After meeting the whole team behind the project the mayor commented on how impressed he was with the opportunity that the Care Wall gives the local community to come together, through art, to celebrate the areas vibrant and diverse culture.
The art will be permanently situated along the entire ground floor of 25 – 28 St James Street where a sustainable development sits above already existing commercial premises. Organisers of the Care Wall are inviting submissions for the wall along the theme of ‘caring for the community and caring for the environment’. Individuals and groups can submit pieces of artwork the size of A4 paper and hand them in at the church. Artwork will be temporally displayed on the wall where the local community’s opinion will be gauged and the most popular pieces will be made permanent.
“I have really enjoyed working on the this project, it’s great to be recognised by the Mayor of the city and it’s been an honour to be able to help put something back in to the community that will really improve local residents day to day lives.” Bill Murray.

A great evening was had by all as Marsha’s in Hove opened its doors to the best of Brighton and Hove’s style conscious residents, for an ethical fashion show on Saturday 21st June.
With designs from the urban chic Good one, to Get Cutie’s bright, daring and feminine dresses to People Tree’s classic cutting and design, the evening proved that ethical fashion is beautiful, stylish and accessible to all, whatever your style.
Hosted by Juice FM’s Guy Lloyd, with delicious canapés from Terre a Terre and bubbly courtesy of Marsha’s, guests were treated to a fantastic evening, and left perhaps thinking about their next shopping trip…
From supporting fair-trade production in Africa, to using second hand clothes to make something new, or sourcing local fabric and making clothes right here in Brighton, each designer on Saturday evening had one thing in common, the consideration of the people behind the clothes we wear, as well as the environment we live in.
“As an ethical stylist I advise my clients to first go home and look through their wardrobe and see what they already have and then look to fill the gaps instead of buying more than they need”, says ethical stylist Lou Taylor, “I then direct them to the retailers who offer ethical fashion from high street labels to vintage stores”.
Murray Media helped plan, manage, market and advertise this fun and informative evening, and are looking forward to many similar upcoming events! Marsha’s in Hove are dedicated to putting on events that support ethical industries, so keep your eyes out for their next event! |

The rain stayed at bay for a tea party at ‘The Nurseries’ held on Saturday. Local eco housing developer Andrew Newton put on a spread of cream teas and Pimms, as well as a fantastic live band which went down a treat with all who came along. In the space of a fortnight Murray Media formed a full-scale marketing and advertising campaign which we implemented in time to draw a crowd of house hunters to the open day. The Mobile Media lorry attended all key events in the lead up to the open day, and we organised the printing and distribution of several thousand flyers to inform the public about this great day.
The BBC’s changing room’s designer Oliver Heath was there saying that, “The open day on Saturday was a chance for potential buyers to get a look and a feel of this high quality and carefully though out development, listen to a great band and have a wonderful cream tea! Anyone who bought on the day will now be getting some design time with me to discuss the interior fit out of their home- so that we really can make it the perfect place to live in Lewes”.
“The nurseries is a sensitively designed development that offers the opportunity for buyers to live in a rustic style home just minutes from both the town centre of Lewes and the countryside. Its good eco credentials mean that fuel bills will be lower whilst it will be lovely and warm all winter long”.
Constructed using renewable materials and combining high Eco Ratings with substantial energy savings, these timber panelled homes offer a very green solution to today’s environmentally aware purchaser, and there are still some properties remaining, so pop along and have look, the show homes are open daily from 10am – 5pm. |
